Canadian Wildlife Magazine: The Darker Side of Night
On the clear nights of her youth in the 1990s, Liz Perkin looked up and saw the Milky Way stretching across the sky. The gas and dust of our galaxy curled around a luminous white band, while millions of stars revealed themselves in the darkness of her family farm southeast of Portland, Oregon. But as Perkin grew up, so did Portland. The city’s population has almost doubled since 1990, and with that has come an increase in the light it emits.
